unplanned consciousness

The facts. It's 2:30am. I have to get up at 5:10am for work. I can't sleep.

I don't really know how things went so wrong. You see, I was sound asleep in my nice warm bed and then 12:50am struck and I bolted awake and immediately began reprogramming my alarm clock. Not just resetting the alarm, but changing ALL the settings. When I finally realized what I was doing it was too late - the damage had already been done. I made sure to reset everything back to the appropriate time (I had set the time to read 5:30pm instead of 12:50am), thought 'hmm that was weird", shut my light off and settled to go back to sleep. The only thing is...I have been awake ever since. My inner monologue refuses to shutup. My mind woke me up and randomly decided it needed to solve all of life's problems in the middle of the night (luckily I snapped out of my delirium or one of which would have been being late for work).

Life is so cruel sometimes.

If anyone is reading this right now and would like to come over and sing me a lullaby or two...it would be much appreciated.

Camping

May Long Weekend. The official kick-off to summer. I went camping, as all good Albertans should do on May Long. Mmmmm... yes, it was delicious. Sunshine, mountains, rain, waterfalls, campfires, lawn chairs, tents.....

I am still mourning the loss of Calgary in the Cup contention. Whilest camping, I came upon a band of Calgary fans that were drowning their sorrows in beer. I happened upon them while looking for a misplaced friend and decided to stay as I had something immediate in common with them. The Calgary Flames. One loyal fan had been to every play off game against Anaheim, home and away. He looked down into the fire as he recounted his pledges of loyalty, barely holding himself together. (though, I had suspicions that it was due to his loyalty to something else entirely...beer worship)

Good Bye Calgary. You let us down.
Thank you Edmonton for beating Anaheim in the first two games. I shall be watching to see if you can do what Calgary failed to do. Beat Anaheim! I hate Anaheim for what they have done. I really wanted a battle of Alberta. Who knows what would have happend. The only sure thing is that the tensions and hatred between cities would have flared. Oil and fire. What a gross combination. Who would have survived? This weekend we burned wood that had been soaked in oil. The smoke was black. But the fire defintely won out. The oil-stained wood was decimated.

I have to watch Edmonton though and even cheer them on. I am from Lethbridge where you are allowed to choose your favourite team. I do choose Calgary over Edmonton, but seeing an Albertan team succeed is pretty exciting. I do not feel like I am betraying the Flames. I am not from Calgary. Some might say that this is band-wagon hopping, but I am a hockey fan. I love to watch this game and want to see Canada take the cup home.

Living close to Whyte ave made me a little bit inclined to want to go and join the party after game 6 against San Jose. SO I dragged Jenna along Whyte Ave and we walked up and back down high fiving everyone as we went. Jenna was a little scared. Karen and Sherri told us to take a knife. But we went unarmed. I did make Jenna change out of a purple shirt. Anaheim likes the colour purple and I did not want anyone to misconstrue us for Anaheim fans. We were home by 11pm. Probably the only two people that went home that early.

Good night.

Our Lady Peace

I just went to the most enjoyable concert of ever. I have been to many concerts in my life, but this one definitely rises above the rest to be my new favourite. They had tough competition too. They were the very first band that I had seen in concert during their Clumsy tour. That was my last favourite. Now, 9 years later on their Healthy in Paranoid Times tour, they have a bigger colleciton of songs. I was anticipating that they would play mostly newer songs, but I was happily made wrong when the opening chords to Naveed began their progression to begin the party.

I love these guys, even though their old stuff is better, they are still pretty awesome. My favourite part had to be when Raine left the stage and disappeared. About two minutes after he disappeared, I looked down the 3rd row of the second balcony and there he was, walking towards me. They also brought half a section of fans onto the stage and let them bounce around for the rest of the concert behind Jeremy Taggart, the drummer.

For those of you who are OLP fans, you should wish that you were there. The only really annoying thing about the concert was that all three opening bamds (who were boring) and OLP did their best to get the crowd riled up in honor of the Oilers victory. They got a kick out of hearing everyone scream. I have to say, that if Calgary loses tommorrow night, I will be very very very very very sad. I hope that they will live to give us a battle of Alberta. So far I have to admit that I have watched all of the Oilers and Flames games and cheered for bot. But in a battle of Alberta I will have to solely cheer for Calgary. The people here in Edmonton would kill me if they knew. I will have to cheer with Liane within locked doors.
